1. Adding a Simple product - 'other' menu items etc.

(Note: You can also firstly refer if you need to, to the article on the "main menu items" at this article link:

Adding Products - Main Entry Boxes

)

A Simple Product covers the vast majority of art products you may sell. Simple Products are shipped and have no options. For example a Painting or a sculpture.

After selecting the Simple Product option at the top of the product and completing the main menu items (demonstrated in the Main menu article). you will then be offered the 'Other' menu, and Menu bar items as below, starting with Inventory.

We will cover each of the 'other' sub-menu items in turn, which notably, most are common to all Product types: Simple, Grouped, Variable and Auction. Then we will discuss the 'other' menu items unique to the other additional Product types etc.

'Other' Menu  items:

- Inventory

The first item is Inventory where you can enter an SKU, stock settings, and whether the art product is sold individually setting.

        SKU

SKU refers to Stock Keeping Unit. A unique identifier for each distinct product that can be purchased.

If you don't want to have SKU numbers, just leave the entry box empty.

        Manage Stock

This checkbox enables stock management at a product level if you require it. Could be used for limited edition prints, for instance, when you might only want to sell say 10 prints in total. The inventory entry options change as per the image below when the Manage Stock checkbox is ticked

Stock Qty: Enter your stock quantity value, which will auto-reduce as you sellWhen no stock left you will not be able to add this item to the cart, etc.

Allow Backorders? is set with managing stock and you have 3 options to choose from

  • Do not Allow
  • Allow, but notify the customer
  • Allow

If "Allow Backorders" is set to allow, stock quantity can go below 0.

Sold individually: Enable this to only allow one of these items to be bought in a single order.

- Shipping

Enter the Product Shipping data, which is required for your Shipping Set Up.

Refer to Shipping Set Up in this article link:

 Shipping Article

Weight (kg): Enter the weight of your item if your shipping calculations are weight dependent.

Dimensions (cm): Enter your item's dimensions, Length, Width and Height if your shipping calculations are size dependent.

Shipping Class:  This is the classification of the shipping bracket your item would fall into eg. letter, large letter, small/medium or large parcel, etc and again corresponds to the "Shipping" you've set up.

Processing time: The time required before sending the art product for delivery.

- Tax

Tax Status: Defines whether or not the art product is taxable and/or, the cost of shipping it is taxable. (Tax only applies if you are registered for VAT).

Options are None | Taxable | Shipping Only.

Tax Class: Choose a tax class for this product.

Tax classes are used to apply different tax rates specific to certain types of products.

Options are Standard | Reduced Rate | Zero Rate

- Attributes

Product Attributes are used for only variable products (eg. S | M | L | XL ), and

Global Attributes, are used for search and can apply to all products
(eg. Edition type - Limited or Open;   Style/Movement - Fine Art, Abstract, etc.;   Medium - photo, oil, acrylic, charcoal, etc.)   (we also refer to Global attributes as Standard Attributes)

These can be added per product, (eg a print in A5, A4, A3, A2, etc.) as in the case of the Variable product covered below. Or, you can set up Global Attributes, which are admin created for all products and used for Search Filters on the site front end. These are referred to as our "Standard Attributes".

For more info on this please refer to this article link below:

Attributes used for Search Filters on the front end

In the image below the "Global or Standard attributes" that apply to all products are shown.

They are used for filters in the category pages and the 'all artworks' page search, to filter the artworks displayed to site viewers, when they select a filter setting.

Notably, Variable Products, in addition to the Standard attributes, use additional Artist Seller-created attributes for options like SIZE: S M L XL or FRAME FINNISH: BLACK, WHITE, GREY, GOLD.

This will be covered in the Article link below. Namely:

3. Adding a Variable Product - Submenu options).

Standard Global attributes (which apply to the site globally) as in the following screenshot Image:

The Standard attributes are as follows:

  • Material
  • Medium
  • Prevailing Colour
  • Shape
  • Size
  • Style/Movement
  • Subject

It is important to note that a selection for each of these Global/Standard attributes must be selected. There is a little red asterisk to signify the compulsory nature of this requirement. Selecting an attribute setting is covered below:

        Selecting an attribute setting:

In the above image display, you will note the blue arrows in a circle symbol for each of the attributes. If you click on the arrow a drop-down appears with an entry box and a selection list of terms available for that attribute.

Click on the appropriate term that applies to your item.

In the example in the image, 'Art Paper' has been selected as the material used, and this has been added to the selection box. (to delete it and change to something else, click on the x, and make another choice)

You can select more than one option if it applies but you must select at least one option.

Repeat this process for all 7 standard attributes.

- Linked

There are two boxes for linked products, Upsells and cross-sells.

Adding an Up-sell or Cross-sell product: In the 'Filter by product' boxes start typing at least 3 of the characters from the title and product title options should be offered for you to select.

Eg. For "Between the trees, Goreglen Waterfall print - Black & White" --- the artwork title appears at the top of the selection after just typing 4 characters, "g o r e..." (start of Goreglen, etc.).

What are Up-sells: Up-sells are art products which you recommend instead of the currently viewed item. Includes art products that are more profitable, better quality, or more expensive,

If selling a print you could up-sell to an original painting, for example.

What are Cross-sells: Cross-sells are art products, which you promote in the cart, based on the current product.

If selling a print, you could cross-sell with a mug using the same image as the print. Alternatively, if it was a print of an oak tree painting you could offer a woodland scene painting as a cross-sell.

- SEO

This is your SEO settings entry page, which is interconnected to our Rank Math SEO plugin. The plugin is a site back-end or behind-the-scenes operative that is designed to optimise the site for Search Engines including Google.

Enter a focus keyword(s) box: We have entered here our typical keyword/keyphrase here, namely "Daffodil Painting".

Also, although you can enter more than one keyword/keyphrase you would also need to use it in your title, description, meta description etc. Therefore, we think that one, optimised keyword/keyphrase, is best.

Meta Description:  This is an important sentence, which should contain your keywords/keyphrases.

The meta description is displayed on most Search engine results, under the title, and should be about 150 to a maximum of 160 characters.

Other recommendations for the Meta Description are:

It should tell the reader what they can expect to find after clicking on your link. Also, it should be a quick, one-to-two-sentence summary of the content within your art product page.

- Add-ons

These are extra settings.

Add-ons enable you to add options to an art product including text boxes, dropdowns, text areas, checkboxes, and even image-based option selections.

We will discuss Add-ons in detail in a separate article, Link:

Adding Products - Add-ons

- Product Policies

Override Policy Fields:  Enable this checkbox to set Art Product-based policies instead of your standard global shop policy

When you do enable the Override Policy Fields, you will be offered your standard policy text for all three of your policies, which you can amend to suit your special requirement.

- Advanced

Enable Reviews: Enable artist/product reviews for your art product. Customers must be registered on the site before they can offer a review and all reviews need to be approved by the admin to ensure they are valid and not detrimental to the artist!

Reviews are displayed on the artist's product page under the Artist Review column heading:
